Public meeting on Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options consultation

The Minister for the Office of Public Works published a report on Phoenix Park Transport and Mobility Options. We welcome a number of positive actions in the report's key recommendations. The public consultation phase commenced on the 29th January for six weeks with the aim of publishing a final report in April 2021. The Need to Improve Our Mental Health Legislation

Neasa spoke in the Dáil on the serious need to update our mental health legislation - with delays currently dating back more than five years. She highlighted the gaps in human rights protections for adults and children receiving inpatient mental health treatment, how we should be commencing parts of the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill 2018 and she asked for a definitive timeline for a new fully revised Mental Health Act.

On the back of reports of people being turned away from homeless services, Neasa argued in the Dáil that the Minister must ensure there is an obligation on local authorities to provide emergency accommodation where the alternative is for someone to sleep rough on the streets; Neasa also questioned the Minister in relation to the procurement and oversight of private providers in this sector; and queried the status of a report into the standards of homeless accommodation in Dublin.

Planning application for 702 units on Castleforbes Industrial Estate site

An application to An Bord Pleanála has been made for 702 residential units on the Castleforbes Industrial Estate site. This is currently a brownfield/commercial site close to the city centre. There are some concerns about, among other aspects, the mix (i.e. 72% of the units are one bed or studio apartments). Given the housing shortage the development of this plot could make a significant contribution to the rental stock in the city. A summary of some of the details of the development are included below.
